MONEY – No, I wasn’t going to be polite and save that one for last. Although money isn’t everything, it sure is something. As a stage hypnotist you can go out and do one show and make what an average worker makes in two weeks or in a month or two months. To me, that’s a great reason to consider becoming a stage hypnotist, so we’re off to a good start.

EASY TO GET INTO – When I say easy, I don’t mean it’s a breeze, I mean it’s easier to get into this business than, say, to become an electrician or an accountant. With many professions out there, you have to go to school and spend big money to train to become an expert. With stage hypnosis the time and money to train is far less than the average occupation and the rewards are much bigger.

BE YOUR OWN BOSS – To me being your own boss is huge. I love not having to get up at the same time every day to go and work for someone I don’t really like while he makes all the money. Being self employed is fantastic. When you own your own business, you keep much more of your money at the end of the year because by their nature, business owners get the privilege of avoiding the taxman a little more than those who work for someone else.

Although stage hypnotists get on stage and receive applause from the audience, they don’t have to practice many hours every day for years.

A JOB YOU CAN BE PROUD OF – I don’t know what you do for a living, but when most people are asked what they do for a living, the person asking doesn’t get excited and want to talk to them about their job for the rest of the day. I can’t tell you how many times people ask me what I do and when I answer, I get hit with a million questions. When you are a stage hypnotist you receive respect and prestige. SHORT WORK DAYS – although you may be driving or sitting on plane when you travel to a show, it’s really downtime or at least it feels like it. You are free to read or listen to music or talk on the phone or get work done on the computer. When you are a stage hypnotist you really only have to be “on” for an hour or two for the day. Often times you are sitting around in a hotel room watching TV. To me, that’s better than working eight or ten hours a day praying for 5 o’clock to come.

LIGHT TRAVEL – I feel bad for other performers when they travel. Musicians have to travel with tons of equipment, magicians have trunk after trunk of props, jugglers have all their torches and swords and rings, ventriloquists have their dummies. When I travel I don’t need props. All I bring is my laptop, clothes and product to sell, although sometimes I ship my product.  That being said, some stage hypnotists like to use props in their show and that’s fine for them. A few props are fine, but a hypnotist sure doesn’t have to load up several trunks of equipment.

NO SET UP AND TEAR DOWN – When I perform I really don’t have to get to the performance venue hours early to set up; 45 minutes is all I need. Actually I don’t even need that, but I don’t want to worry the person who hired me and have them think I’m not going to show up. There is hardly a set up. Although there are the chairs on the stage etc, that is all taken care of in my contract rider (we’ll get into that later) so my show is set up for me. Some hypnotists travel with their own sound equipment, but I don’t see a reason to when one can be provided for free.
